when I try to use Windows XP search function it only
returns results of individual files. I need to find a
folder. I enter the folder's name and click search and
only get results for files with similar names? How can I
locate a lost folder?

are you searching the entire hard drive or a specific
location? If you are on a specific location then that
location may not have folders in it associated to the
name you are searching for.

XP's search function can search and find both files and folders, perhaps
your "lost folder" is truly gone. If you think that your search function is
broken then try searching for a folder like Windows that you know exists.

If u start your search by clicking the magnifying glass of
a taskbar you search only in the folder were you are. If
you want to make a complete search , go to start/search

I am searching the whole hard drive and I have tried
searching for a folder I know exists i.e. windows. I
still get no results. Any suggestions.

What do you click on after you start Search? Documents or Files and
Folders? May want to try adjusting your Search preferences to Advanced. May
need to use "More advanced options" to select include hidden, system and
subfolders to see if you can get more predictable results for this type of
search.
