Steve

In Win Xp when I try to 'search' for files and folders
from the start button, the "files and folders" option is
not shown.

This is troublesome also when using Explorer to find a
file or folder on the machine. It forces the search to
the internet.

Hi Steve,

Click Start | Run | "Regsvr32 /i browseui"
then,
"Regsvr32 /i shell32"

This should restore the options in search.

Reverse the procedure and create the said registry key.

Thanks so very much Ramesh! You can't beleive how
greatful I am for your knowledge and help.

If I can impose on you for another problem... in MS-Office
products the "list recent files" selector in options |
general is greyed out. How can I reset this to be
functional?

Steve

Steve,

When you disable Recent Files on the Start Menu/Registry (using a tweak or
tweaker), it is also disabled for Office.

Restore Recent Documents (Line 55)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
