Hi, I can't get the Start>Search>Files and Folders to run....I get a busy
mouse-pointer for a few seconds when I click on it then it stops and returns
to my normal pointer. I've tried changing users and it doesn't work in any
user (WinXP Home)I've tried Restore but that didn't work. Not too long ago I
tried going into My Computer, right clicked on C: drive and used the search
from there and it opened fine, now that doesn't work anymore either. I went
into System32 and it doesn't have a Search.exe so I found a find.exe and
when I double-click on that I get like a small DOS window open & closes too
fast to see what or if it says anything. The Gremlins are at work
again...<sigh> I don't know how to get this feature back. Can someone help
with this? Thank you!

Reinstalling search function may work.
First unhide files and folders and show extensions. You can do so in Control
Panel's Folder Options under the View tab.

Open windows explorer and go to this location
C:\Windows\inf
Find srchasst.inf
Right-click it and select install
You will be prompted for the xp cd
Insert the cd and browse to D:\i386\name of the file needed to copy

Eddy....I want to thank you for the help......It didn't work in the
Start>Search but at least I got it back in the My Computer > Search and
that's all I need......sure is weird tho that it works one place and not the
other? But thanks so much! :o))

You're most welcome Lise.
I'm not sure why.
Try re-registering shell32.dll in the registry:
Go to Start/Run and enter "regsvr32 shell32.dll" no quotes.
You can also try running SFC /SCANNOW from a command prompt window:
Go to Start/Run and enter cmd
Enter "sfc /scannow" no quotes
