Laurel

I am not able to use any search engines: google, yahoo,
msn. I can type addresses in the toolbar and go to sites,
but I cannot access anything via a search engine.

Everytime I try, I get a DNS error, page cannot be
displayed.

I have checked for ghost trojans on 2 separate virus
software programs and I am clean.

I experienced this problem after I installed one virus
program and after installing yahoo messenger. I don't know
if that has anything to do with it. Maybe my settings were
changed. Problem is, I don't know how to fix them.
Everything seems to be right, sql's etc.

Can someone please help??!! I feel very stranded without
my searches!

Thank you

So can you access ANY pages from links on other sites or just search pages?

Try to type in the URL of a site you need in the address field of your browser. Can you get to the page that way?

Delete your Hosts file.

Search for files on your C: drive called hosts

Delete both of them C:\windows and C:\windows\drivers\etc

The hosts thing worked! thank you!

i didn't delete all of the hosts, though, just the ones
that had an unidentified program with which to open it.

i still have:
dlhost on winnt\servicepacket
hostmib.dll
dllhost winnt\system32
hostname winnt\system32
sychost winnt\system32

should i delete these as well to avoid future problems?

yes, i was able to access pages if i typed the address in
the address field, i just wasn't able to go to any search
sites. if i typed google, i would get a dns page. also, i
could get the main yahoo page, but when i typed something
in the search field, i got the dns page.

I've read on the message boards that others have had this
problem, so i'm hoping this will help them now, too.
