I have Windows XP and recently I instaled NEt Zero as my ISP. I wasn't happy
with it so I removed it and went to a cable provider. Now when i open my
Internet Explorer it works but I do not have any search area any longer as
before. Is there a way to turn on the searching in IE6 on Xp that may have bn
disabled. The cable provider said that Net Zero may have disabled the search
engines.
Thank you

Hi JoeM :-)

Change IE's Default Search Engine

Adding or Customizing a Search Engine
http://www.toolbutton.net/help/index.html?addingorcustomizingasearch.htm

or.....

Change the Internet Explorer Search Engine (All Windows)
http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/289

CAUTION! Be sure to back up your registry before making any changes!

also.....

Open IE and click on View | Explorer Bar | Search. This opens a side panel
for searches. If your side panel has the animated search character, select
Change Preferences and then select Change Internet Search Behavior. A list
of popular search engines appears, and you can select your favorite from the
list.

This new default setting applies only to searches done from the side panel.
Entering keywords into the address bar will still trigger an MSN search. But
if you leave the side panel open, you can search with your favorite engine
without having to navigate to its site first. And you'll get search
refinement suggestions in the sidebar along with your engine's results.

If you'd rather search from the address bar, after selecting Change Internet
Search Behavior select With Classic Internet Search. Then close IE and
reopen it. The side panel will now contain a Customize selection on the menu
bar. Click on that to open the Customize Search Settings dialog. Click on
the Autosearch settings button and you'll see a second dialog that lets you
change the default engine for searches from the address bar itself. Once
you've chosen the engine you prefer, you can close the side panel. Searches
entered in the address bar will now be sent to your preferred search engine.

If you don't see your favorite search engine among those listed in IE you
may be able to add yours anyway. AllTheWeb, for example, lets you click on
an option to make it the default search engine in IE

please post back to this thread with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Thank you with your assistance with this. I did use the registry reset
program you linked me to and it did reset it back right but unfortunately it
then went right back. I ran spybot and did find alot of spyware and removed
those. However there were a few it wouldnt removed even after a reboot it
asked for. How do I get rid of those?? Spybot did remove over 300 other ones
but as we all know you only need one to mess you up.

Hi Joe :-)

First, did you run the SpyBot in Safe Mode, with the Hidden Files enabled?
There are some types of spyware that entangle with good files, and when
Windows is running they can say they are "in use and can't be deleted' and
such to prevent being removed. Thus, try running SpyBot in Safe Mode and
see if it will take out the rest of the scumware. Post any error messages
you get and their exact wording, as it may help point to what is holding
things up.

also....here are a couple of programs you might try to restore the
connections, as sometimes a connection can be broken.

(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
