Search companion

I can't get my folders on my desk top to open by double
clicking. when I double click it takes me to something
called search companion. if i right click search is
highlighted and open is not. How do I switch it back?

Open Windows Explorer and click Tools | Folder Options | File Types
Select Folder (File extension = NONE).
Click Advanced.
Select 'open' and click Set Default.
