In Windows XP Professional. Clicking on search (for the
search companion) brings up a screen that is completly
blank of any options. How can this function be restored?
Windows Update indicates there are no updates currently
available that have not been installed on this machine.

inside search window
click on view button
click on explorer bar
click on search
use file button to close window

In Start 'Search' window:
In Search Companion (left side area)
-Left column pick "More advanced options" chevron
--Slide down & pick "Change preferences"
make changes as desired

Does not help. When Search is checked in Explorer Bar
there appears to be two panes. The only thing visible in
the left pane is the "X" in the upper right hand corner
of what should be the search pane.

The "left side area" is completly blank other than
the "x" in the upper right hand corner. There is nothing
there to click on. No "Advanced Options" nothing.

click view button to toolbars option to customize option
move "search" icon to the right box - click close
click search icon in toolbar

Hi CW,

Try this: Click Start | Run and type "regsvr32 /i
c:\windows\srchasst\srchui.dll"

If this did not help,
1. Log on to the computer by using an account with administrator
permissions.
2. Click Start, click Run, type %systemroot%\inf, and then click OK.
3. Locate the Srchasst.inf file.
4. Right-click the Srchasst.inf file, and then click Install. This
reinstalls the files that Search Companion uses.

NOTE: If you are prompted for the location of msgr3en.dll and your computer
came with Windows XP preinstalled, it is likely to be at C:\Windows\i386.
Type C:\Windows\i386 into the Copy Files From dialog and press OK.

Method 2:
Download a fix from:
