Does anyone know if it is possible to reconfigure the
search window in XP to resemble the search window in 98?
The XP search doesn't work for me as well as the 98
version. Thanks!

Download and install TweakUI:

Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP (TweakUI)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

After installing, go to Start > Programs > PowerToys for Windows XP >
TweakUI. Click Explorer and place a check next to "Use Classic Search
in Explorer" and click "apply".

A fellow at alt.comp.freeware provided a reference for find.zip (88K)
an alternative that works very fast and searches system files,
subfolders, etc. without being prompted. Has a [Y2K?] problem
searching by date, so I use it as my primary Find area with XP as a
backup when I specifically need that function. Another advantage with
XP is its default of being able to look into .cab and .zip files,
which is useful at times.

For find.zip:

Doing this helps but it still isn't as good as win98 since Search
doesn't open in a separate window as it used to...any way to do that?

Find.zip is an 88K download that functions very much like the one with
win98 (problems with date search, though). I use this one primarily,
although the XP Find has some other good points like looking inside
compressed files. The download was located by a fellow in
alt.comp.freeware.

Hmm, what kind of problems does it have with date search?
