Search companion doesn't work

I received a message that I have a worm on my machine.
When I went to the search option from the start menu, the
companion comes up but nothing else. There is no place
to enter a file name, no links to click. Just that
stupid dog sitting there sniffing himself!

Hello,

If you can get on the Web, download a cleaner for the
worm from your antivirus manufacturer. Maybe that will
clear up the other problems on your computer.
