Search Calendar for an exception in a recurring appointment

Help!

I need to search, in Calendar items, for some items that are exceptions in a
recurring appointment... Can this be done?

I'd be surprised if this is possible because recurring items are single
calendar entries and it appears (to me) that the exceptions are somehow
recorded in the individual item so as to suppress or alter Outlook's
on-the-fly generation of the exceptions.
