My son has taken my search button off my toolbar in my
browser and replaced it with his own search engine bar
called Isearch.
I have tried all ways to customize the toolbar and get
the search button to appear and to also get rid of this
search engine but with no luck. I right-clicked on the
toolbar but all items are ticked and appear locked. It
gives me no option to customize my buttons.
Hope you can understand what I mean.
Thank you for any help:)

First eliminate any scumware.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
CWShredder is also available here:

**Post your HijackThis log to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the Spyware forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**
Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.
If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

Ok I did all of that and am now waiting on results of my
Hijack This log in the Spyware forums.

I did go into the registry and found the iSearch folder.
Would it be safe to delete it?

Thanks again for your help:)

Judy,

Additionally:

Get Toolbarcop and remove the unwanted toolbar:
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/toolbarcop.htm

Then, download all of these utilities and scan the system.

* Spybot Search & Destroy: http://www.safer-networking.org/
* Ad-Aware - www.lavasoftusa.com
* CoolWebSearch Shredder :
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip
[Exe] http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/CWShredder.exe

Deleting the ISearch key in registry alone is not sufficient, as it loads as a BHO, inprocserver DLL.

For the Toolbar customize (greyed out) issue, read below:

Open Regedit and goto this location:

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
Backup the key and delete both "NoBandCustomize" and
"NoToolbarCustomize" values in the right pane.

* For Windows XP Professional: [Using gpedit] *
Open GPEDIT.MSC and goto:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Administrative Templates | Windows Components | Internet Explorer |
Toolbars
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disable customizing browser toolbar buttons set it to "Not configured"
Disable customizing browser toolbars set it to "Not configured"
Configure Toolbar Buttons set it to "Not configured"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
