Search Button isn't Doing What it Used To...

When I push the search button the side window opens up
with the header "Choose a category...etc.", but the window
below it is completely empty. This side window displays a
message in the bottom of the main window that
says "Loading search settings...", but nothing is ever
displayed in the side window. How can I fix it back to
where it will display the categories in the Search
Assistant? (i.e. previous searches, find a web page, find
an address, etc.)
