I used to be able to type a application name, like 'calc' in the search box
and it would return the application. Now for some reason it no longer finds
applications. Is there a setting I switch on accident?

Right click on start, select properties, and then personalize (i think
?, top button anyway)

Scroll down to the bottom, make sure search in programs are checked.
