The other day I downloaded a file from a website and checked it with Norton
All
ok. However when I ran the file it stuck loads of waffle on my system, I've
been able to get rid of all of it except this stupid bar that appears only
in IE

I've ran safe mode and ran Ad ware and Reg Cleaner (Now called JV16) The
search bar doesn't not appear in safe mode.

When I re-start my PC the bar is there I've tried deleting the reg entries
but still not helped.

I can't believe this thing is still on my PC. Now's it's killing my Internet
Speed

Any ideas

Many Thanks

Try going start -> run -> msconfig.exe

Go to the "startup" tab, find the program for the search bar, and uncheck
the box. Restart and delete the folder it's in.

As a IT desktop Technician I run into alot of users with Spyware\Adware on
their systems and spend hours cleaning it depending on how extensive the
infestation is. I used Spybot\adware\hijackthis and also cleaned the systems
registry and files from the machine. I have some success with these methods.
Problem is if you miss something it can come back in fullforce. YOUR BEST
bet is using the New Microsoft ANTISPYWARE (but is beta right now) software.
I cleaned a few pc's with it in less than half the time and it seems to find
everything and get rid of everything 1st time around(it does leave some empty
reg folders here and there from spyware). Give that A shot I have had 100%
success so far.

MS AntiSpyware is a beta application: It is far from being bug-free. RTFM
and use with extreme caution, if at all. Make certain you know how to undo
anything before you fix it with MS AntiSpyware. It should not be the sole
anti-malware tool you rely on.

In regards to the Quick Scan feature, how extensive is it? It does not
sound to be a complete scan of all files. It seems more to be only a
topical search of certain files. Should this be considered as reliable as a
full scan as to the removal of all scumware on the system?

As discussed elsewhere, compare to Ad-aware's 'Smart Scan' and a
user-directed 'Custom Scan' (cf. http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=5877).
