I run the MS antispyware and it finds searchassistant,
over and over again even though it says it has removed it
each time....Also the same thing happens with spybot...it
scans,finds effectivebandtoolbar and
coolwwwsearch.leftoversand "fixes" them but i run the
spybot again and they are still there. What can i do
about this?

Restart in safe mode by pressing the F8 function key before the first
Windows screen appears.

Scan with both products in safe mode.

Did you try running a full system scan using Microsoft AntiSpyware in safe
mode? If that does not work, try this:
www.ccleaner.com
- Restart in *safe mode*, press F8 during reboot

- Run CCcleaner and remove all temporarily junk.

- Run Adaware, fullscan

- Run MSAS, fullscan

- Restart

- Please report back if this works.

For Cool WebSearch specifically:
CoolWebSearch is a constantly mutating major nuisance. The best tool to
diagnose it is HijackThis, and expert advice. HijackThis shows all possible
traces of software, anything that MIGHT be malware, and lets an expert
identify the bad stuff manually.

HijackThis http://www.tomcoyote.com/hjt/

Create a separate folder for HijackThis, such as C:\HijackThis - copy the
downloaded file there.

Then, run HijackThis ("Scan"). Do NOT make any changes immediately. Save
the HJT Log.

Finally, have your HJT log interpreted by experts at one or more of the
following security forums (and please post a link to your forum posts,

Also send in a suspected Spyware report:
1) Submit suspected spyware report in the tools menu of Antispyware
2) Reboot in safe mode and run a deep scan
3) Run antivirus (with current definitions) while you are in safe mode.
