I've been asked if there is a program that will help search the web for
music that you can legally download. I told them not to use kazaa but is
there anything else?
One way to download music legally is to find the artists record company,
use a web browser and google.
The record company often let people download one or two songs from an album
for free, hoping they will like it so much that they buy the whole album.
For an artist who has recorded several albums this means you can download a
number of songs, usually in the mp3 format, and use them in your mp3
player.
If you are not looking for a specific artist you can search on the genre
you like, and find loads of more or less known artists who play such music,
and you will find lots of free mp3:s
I was surprised a few years ago when I searched for information about, and
music of, certain Latin american artists which are not known by many
outside latin america. I found many songs with my favorite artists and many
more I didn't know about before.
Later I searched for fairly unknown blues guitarists and found mp3s from
them too.
So there is no problem to find enormous amounts of music to download
legally for free on the web, whatever strange musical taste you have.
Less known artists are even more generous than the famous ones, because
they want to become known. So if you are happy with music in a certain
genre performed and composed by relatively unknown artists there is even
more music available for free.
It can be a problem though, if you want a certain well known song by a
certain well known artist. Such songs are often the ones the record
companies use to sell records, so you might not find that special world hit
by a world famous artist available for free.
