Seamless Transitions?

I have a movie that I recorded, then played it through a Video Capture
Device. And after I downloaded it to my PC, the movie is now in many little
clips. After I add the Transitions to the Storyboard, is there a way to have
a "Seamless Transition" to the next clip. That way it actually looks like the
movie I recorded in the first place. I know if I set the Duration, it
overlaps each clip a little. But is there a way to have it almost Seamless?

Sounds like you wish to combine the clips...

If all the clips are in the original positions
on the timeline...select one clip and type
Ctrl+A to select all...then go to...Clip /
Combine...or type...Ctrl+M.

If this fails...try re-importing the video...
and on the 'Import File' screen...uncheck...
"Create clips for video files".

Hello John, I will have to try that.
Yes, that is what I want to do. It was recorded in real time originally.
Then after I downlaoded it to my PC, it was broken up into small clips. I
recoreded it from a Digital Camera that can record for 3-7 hrs without
stopping. (Depending on Batteries). Then it records on a 2GB media Card for
camera's.
Do you still add the Transitions between the clips before you do that, or
just bring the clips down into the "Timeline". And then do Ctrl+A to select
all...then go to...Clip /Combine...or type...Ctrl+M.

Thanks again,
John (Silver_Tongue_Devil)

If you insert transitions the combine
option will not work. And...the clips
must be in the original sequence.

I guess you are aware...when you
save the finished movie it will be a
single file no matter how many
clips are included in the project.

To save as a .wmv movie file...
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Tick...'Best Quality For My Computer'
Next/
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...

To save as an .avi movie file...
(and several other options)
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Show More Choices /
Other Settings /
Open the drop window and choose...DV-AVI /
Next /
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...

A seamless transition should happen automatically when there is no
transition at all between the clips. Place clip A on the timeline and
next to it place clip B. Thats it.

Well it is the null transition!!! Not really a transition, just the
absence of it :-)

Okay...I get it. Advancing from clip A to
clip B would a form of transition...even if
the clips used to be a single file.

I learn something new everyday.

Thanks.

Hello again John I.
I 've been away for a few weeks, and now I have the time to check and see if
this all works.

The movie I mentioned that I wanted to combined has 1569 mini-clips, around
4 hrs long. I tried what you mentioned to me to do.
I added 20 mini-clips that were in order to try as a test. Then put them in
corect order in the Storyboard. Then after that, I hit Ctrl+A to select all
clips, then Ctrl+M to combine, then Ctrl+P to open Movie Wizard. After saving
that, It made the Movie1.wmv file. Then I added the second 20 mini-clips. Did
the same. To get Movie2.wmv file.

After that, I wanted to see if I can combine both the Movie1.wmv (4 minutes)
& Movie2.wmv (5 minutes) files together. I added them to the Collections
list, then after looking at them, I did notice that they also breakout into a
few mini-clips. So I added them in order for both sets of movies, then
combined them together. That also did work. The 2 movies made a (9 minute)
clip.
Now I will have to do that to the next 1529 mini-clips. lol

Thanks again John I. for all your help.

Welcome back. Sounds like you are making some
progress...but I must say I think your project is way
too large. I think you may have better luck with several
smaller projects.

FWIW...if you do not want your imported files divided
into clips...uncheck "Create clips for video files"
on the import screen.

Considering that a 4.7GB DVD can handle 1 hour
of video...I'm not sure what you could do with a 4 hour
movie even if you did manage to complete it without
crashing your computer.

Hello again John, Yeah I do know that it was a large project.
I was really trying to see if it would work.
The movie I made was just a camera sitting on the shelf watching everybody
at a party having fun. I was just seeing what this program can do, if I did
have a video that long. Now I know it can work.
I will be making smaller movies now. That way they can fit on a DVD.

I did have another question.......
I do have a Video Capture Device, and I want to transfer "VHS" tapes to this
format. Will this work the same way? Or does it create different file types
from "VHS" to Digital format? Then would I follow the same process?
That is the main project I would really like to try out. I have a lot of
Home Movies from "VHS" that I would like to save for safe keeping.

Thanks, John
