I have a Seagate Tapestor 20/40GB travan tape drive connected through
USB which is causing certain irritation in that if it is connected and
powered on causes the following problems -
when using a MSI 845PE Max mother board with an AMI BIOS 3.4 OK.
when using a MSI 845PE Max mother board with an AMI BIOS > 3.4 POST
hangs until the tapedrive is disconnected at which time the boot
process continues as normal.
when using a ABIT IS7 mother board (865PE) with Award BIOS 6.00PG the
mouse is frozen, if the PC is booted up with the tapedrive is powered
off the PC boots normally and the mouse behaves normally. Can then
switch the tape drive on and can use it.

Has anyone else encountered these problems and fixed them?

Thanks Alex

First, see if there is a firmware update for the drive (Tape support is
now at http://www.certance.com/support/tape/index.html).

Second, try looking through your BIOS options to see if you can tell it
to not search for USB devices. There may be an option on whether it looks
for USB drives.

If your keyboard is *NOT* USB, try disabling Legacy USB support.

With the ABIT IS7 (Award BIOS) I have altered the seeting to only boot
from a floppy or the hard drive. The only USB settings were to diable
USB completely - not helpful - or for USB Keyboard/ Mouse allow for
either BIOS or OS control. Tried these no change. Will investigate
whether there is later version of the BIOS.

The MSI 845PE board (AMI BIOS) has a setting for Legacy USB support
but the board is currently without a case, it will soon be raplacing a
Pentium I board.

Will keep everybody posted
