I have a Seagate ST328040A 28.5 GByte disk drive which has crashed. It
doesn't seem to power up. Just dead! I was thinking of buying an exact
replacement (ST328040A) and swap parts to retrieve some of the data.
Has someone ever done this? Does anyone have one of these drives they
would be willing to sell me? I can be reached at (e-mail address removed).

If anyone has any other suggestions it would be greatly appreciated!
The drive just quit on me. My bios does not recognize it anymore and I
don't hear any sound from it, thinking that something is wrong with the
power connection. I know the cable and power from the computer are fine
as I have replaced with another hard drive. However, I really need the
data from this one. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Yes, some have got the data back by doing that.

Doesnt always work tho, most obviously when the rotation motor has died.

Thats unlikely given whats just below.

The logic card on the drive may well have died tho.

You could try a logic card swap from an identical drive.
Shouldnt cost much to try.

You can also use a pro recovery service for your data,
but you'd better be sitting down when you see the price,
otherwise you can hurt yourself when you faint.

Yeah, I already looked into a professional. I think I would rather
stick to trying it myself so I am trying to track down a drive exactly
like mine.

Does anyone have any ideas of where to look to try and find an exact
copy of my drive?
