I have just noticed that a very few places are now selling Seagate
400 GB EIDE hard drives but the prices are a little high (about
$0.82/gig). Does anyone know when this drive first came out and
when the price is likely to start coming down? Thank you in advance
for all replies.

They have only come out in the past month
I would think the price would come down only when there
is more 400GB hard drives coming out from other manufacturers.
I believe Hitachi has just announced it is coming out with it's own 400GB.

About a week ago, maybe two. 400s are the state of the art. Expect to pay
a premium.

About the time that the 600s or 800s or whatever the next step will be start
shipping.

There are more ads for Hatachi 400 GB drives on www.PriceWatch.com
than there are for the Seagate. The prices are lower too but I want
the Seagate because of the five year warranty.

The part number for the retail Seagate is ST3400832A. Does anyone
know if there is an oem version yet and if so, what the part number
is? (It is hard to search for something like that on
www.Froogle.com without the part number.)

I started a thread about Seagate and their five year warranty.
Some OEMs may not have a five year warranty from Seagate.

The Seagate 300GB and 400GB drives are currently only available in ATA100,
