Hello Ronnie,
I agree with everything you wrote. In particular,
| you can assign just about any file extension
| to a file created with Notepad.
Also in Wordpad, provided that, in the file "Save As"
dialog box, in the "Save as type:" drop-down box, the user
selects [ Text Document ]
Although a user is able to "Open" a .WRI file in
Wordpad, .RTF is the only Wordpad-formatted file type
which can be saved.
A .WRI file, which I looked at, has "{\rtf1\ansi\" in its
header, as does .RTF, so the user could just save as .RTF.
That would be easier than "hand-coding" the plain-text
..WRI-formatting in a plain-text file, but I suspect that
is not what the original poster meant in his other thread.
If only the original poster would respond! Then we would
all know exactly what his "problems with saving a .WRI
file" really are.

I prefer to use Wordpad for small formatted txt files
have a lot of trouble getting files to "save" or "save
as" Wordpad docs, with the .wri ext. Can someone tell me
how to get the .wri ext to appear in the file type field?

To be completely accurate, Notepad is for creating text
files only, but these files can be saved in many different
file formats including .wri (Windows Write file).
You can create a web page using Notepad giving the saved
file the .htm extension.
In fact you can assign just about any file extension to a
file created with Notepad.
