SDRAM / half capacity in old PCs

Hi all !

I have a problem with two computers : 1 K6-350 and 1 Celeron 400
SDRAM (PC100 or PC133) are only recognized at half capacity !!

The BIOS will recognize only as much as the motherboard supports. If you put a 512 MB DIMM in a motherboard that supports a maximum of 256 MB per slot it will see 256 MB.
 
You are probably having the same problem that I have experienced with a few
E-Machines. Both Emachines and crucial.com state that the max memory in the
combined 2 slots is 256mb, 128mb in each. Install a 256mb sdram and it
still only see 128mb. But get double sided 256mb and it will see it all.
So now my sister's emachine has 512mb by installing 2 256mb double sided
sdram sticks.
