I installed an extra 256 MB of RAM on my laptop on top of
the 256 that came with it about 1 year ago. My system
display always read 512 MB as it should. I just noticed
today, however, that it now reads 256 MB. I took out both
cards and put them back in and rebooted the computer and
it still says 256 MB. Any ideas as to why it doesn't read
512? and am I not getting 512 MB out of my cards now?

Only put one ram stick in and boot up, if your computer

starts then shutdown and move that same stick to the
other slot and restart,if this works then do the same
with the other stick.This will troubleshoot both ram
sticks and both slots and hopefully tell you where your
problem is.
