I wanted to share this with you and ask your opinion / comments. I have a
PDA - model SPV M1000
marketed by Orange (supposedly Q-tech).I got it from my telephone provider
(Quite a present, Isn't it?)
I bought a 1GB card for it from SanDisk. I took a few pictures, recorded a
few messages and then,
one day - two weeks later - it crashed. I lost all the data - all my
messages etc.
I have sent it back to the shop and got a new one. Not suspecting anything
since I thought I had just
bad luck, I took my PDA with me to a business meeting. Rather than writing
the minutes from the
discussions I recorded the entire meeting (all the participants agreed). On
my way home I played back
a few sections just to check the quality. It was excellent. But when I
arrived home the I could not
retrieve the files. The card crashed. Again! Only this time I lost very
precious and irreplaceable data.
I have downloaded from the web three programs that were supposed to help me
recover the lost
data. None did. I have purchased one more. This one didn't help either. The
I contacted SanDisc.
They advised me to buy a data recovery program (the one I already had). I
asked them if they could
help me - the lost files were very important. They didn't even respond. Then
I cam across a message
on the web reporting early problems with Sandisk 1GB SD cards. I was
furious. So these shmucks
would sell cards of which they knew that they had problems? Scandalous!
Now I have a new 1GB card from Apacer. Just to be sure it is safe I have
tested it thoroughly.
I have plugged it in and out with and without switching off the PDA, I have
plugged it out and in
while my PDA was saving data on the card. I could not crash it. It seems it
is safe.
Now I have a dilemma. I'd like to but a second SD card for my PDA - with
WLAN and with some
extra storage. I could find one only from Sandisk but I don't want to buy
anything anymore from
them. Are there any other SD+WLAN cards on the market? What is your opinion
about the safety
of such cards?
Regards,
Andy
