I'm hoping someone has some input on this problem: Quantum Fireball ST 2.1G
SCSI-3 hard drive isn't accessible from MyComputer or Explorer for
formatting, although it appears in Device Manager, IDed as Quantum Fireball
2.1ST when viewing by devices, and when viewing by connection under the
Adaptec SCSI adapter to which it is (internally) connected. It also is
properly identified when the Adaptec's BIOS is loaded, and the BIOS
(according to Adaptec) would not load if the drive hadn't been recognized
(checked out). SCSI ID is 2 for the HD, 7 for the card. Card is set up as
autoterminated, though I've tried explicitly terminating it, and it makes no
difference. HD is terminated with jumper on the term position, cable is a
new Adaptec, and although I have used the card for a couple of years with an
HP 5p scanner externally connected with no problems, I have removed that
since I had this trouble trying to install the HD.
I have used the BIOS's routines to scan the HD, which it seems to do just
fine, and have used the formatting routine, in hopes of getting W98 to see
it.
HD LED indicates initial activity while booting W98se, even when the Delayed
Start option is selected in the setup screen.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to get this thing formatted in W98se?
Thanks,
Joe
