I had built my own system and it was running at top
configuration - I installed an IBM 35 Gig 10,000 rpm SCSI
connected to an Adaptec Ultra 160 board - no problems the
system recognized the drive and the config was set. I
recently added a Quantum SCSI 78 gig 10,000 rpm drive for
additional storage - Win XP doesnot recognize the new
drive - which is formatted NTFS - the drive is listed in
the device manager with a yellow tag -
I am confused the IBM drive was recognized by the system
and the drivers used were the operating systems driver.
The system says there is no driver installed for this
drive and now the system is also indicating the same for
the IBM????? The new drive doesnot show up in MY
Computer - but shows in device manager?? any suggestions?

One thing you must do is run diskmgmt.msc and assign your new partition(s) a
drive letter. Otherwise they will not show up or be usable.

Make sure that the drive ID is set correctly and the cable is terminated
properly. The termination has two parts, the terminator on end of the cable
chain and also, depending on the Adaptec controller, may have to be set for
different type of termination on board trough the CTRL-A menu during boot.
Read the manual or go to Adaptec web site to find out how to do this.

You will need to go into administrative tools and turn the
hard drive on. you will have to make win xp aware of the
drive. It is some type of terrible copy protection that
makes xp very unpleseant for people like us.
