SCSI Adapter No Longer Being Used

I have an Advansys SCSI host adapter in a PCI slot in my Win XP box
that I no longer use. Since nothing is connected to it, can it be
"uninstalled" from Device Manager without physically removing it from
the computer? If so, would that eliminate the time during bootup that
the BIOS spends recognizing and identifying the vacant ID's for the
SCSI card?

Thanks for any help!

No, you can disable it in DM but that will have no effect on the BIOS delays
whatsoever.
For that you need to either disable the SCSI BIOS, if it has such a
function, or physically remove the card.

You can disable it in the device manager (if you uninstall it, it will just
be redetected during the next boot up). This will have no affect on
anything that happens before windows is booted, so will have no affect on
the bios scan done by the SCSI card bios to detect attached devices. There
might be an option to disable the card bios on the card, (might be a
jumper) but more than likely you will have to pull the card to stop the
scan.

Disable IRQ/DMA channals for that device in BIOS if available?

Try what Bubba suggested.

Go into the BIOS...set that slot to Legacy and then disable it.

But I wouldn't think that pulling the card should be that biga deal.
Don't uninstall it...just pull it...and disable it in dm. When you go
to put the card back in later, all should run pretty smoothly.

Have a nice week...
