Hi.

I thank those few who have tried to help me with this, but
this is driving me up the wall! I've tried this forum for
a couple of days and sent a support request two days ago
and NOBODY who really knows what to do is helping me.
There HAS TO BE a fairly simple way to adjust the way the
scroll bar operates. Mine runs wild sometimes, and at
best goes more than a screen at a time.

This all worked properly before I installed Office XP.
Now, it is happening in Outlook, IE and (sometimes..!) in
Word and WordPerfect, so I suspect it is a change made at
the OS level, by Office, during the install. I told it t
keep all my settings, but...

I _NEED_ this to work properly. I do online legal
research for a so-called "living" (i.e., I'm in training
as a paralegal) and scanning through documents is the most
important task I do. I've trained myself to be able to
visually scan pages with a couple of lines left over from
a prior screen, but now I am missing parts of the document
when I do it that way. Going line by line (buttons) is
far too slow. I need help.

I paid for this software.

Microsoft's tech support people are sending me stuff back
and forth, all of which was to do with proprietary
concerns on their part and collecting fee for FIXING WHAT
THEY BROKE. The time they've spent massaging and cajoling
me could have had this resolved by now.

Visit the support websites of both the manufacturer of your
video card adapter and mouse, search for the latest Windows XP
compatible drivers, download and install them. Make sure to
uninstall the old drivers first.

ok....here goes....the final answer...
position cursor "close" to the top/bottom of the slider
and it will scroll one window. farther away from slider
and it will scroll farther. press on actual slider and
it slides as you move mouse(desktop computer...laptop
will be using the button or touchpad)

might try using the up/down arrow keys (adjust in
keyboard properties window). pageup/pagedown keys do
what is obvious. keys home/end are to good to be true.

aren't you glad we don't have lower-case numbers?
=========================================================

Thank you. I'm going to try that, but recall that this
didn't happen before on wxp; the behavior changed when I
installed Office XP over Office 2000. I ran this trackball
with xp for several weeks before I upgraded Office, with
none of this trouble so I doubt that it is a driver issue.

I'll let you know, in upper case numbers...

did ya know that scroll wheel could scroll ONE screen at
a time? see mouse properties/wheel tab.

one of the latest patches from Microsoft screwed up scrolling where it does double scrolls.
this may or may not be your particular problem.

Which patch? I also just started having this problem, and would like to uninstall it to see if it cures the problem. Thanks for any info you can give.

Never mind - found it in a different thread. Uninstalling KB824145 returned the expected functionality to the scroll bars.
