Hello,

I'm running Windows 98 on a Compaq pentium II 266 mmx.
IE 6.0 is my browser. When viewing pretty much any web
page, a horizontal scroll bar appears at the bottom of the
browser screen. The pages display VERY wide (to the end of
the scroll) and are always full of errors. I've re-
installed IE 6, checked my display adapter etc.. and I
can't figure out what may be causing this issue. All other
programs display fine. Any ideas?

Looks like you aren't seeing the full source.
Two possibilities that I can think of which could account for that
are incorrect MTU size and modem overruns.
Both are problems which would be better addressed by a different
newsgroup than this one.

What happens on secure pages? Secure pages are encrypted
so if they get corrupted in the same way you should see a more
definite error message or at least a different symptom.

Do you have any other machines which you can compare page
renderings with? You could save the source for the same page
on each machine and then compare if those files are the same.
In fact, then you could also exchange the saved files and see how
they rendered on the other machine.

E.g. if the other machine's file renders properly on your machine
and the file saved from your machine causes the same errors on
the other machine you will have proved that the cause of the errors
is that something corrupted the transmission to your machine
and also that there is nothing wrong with your machine if it is given
correct data.

Good luck
