After reading up on past articles in a google search to solve a problem I
was having, I have now installed Hijack This and Spybot. I already had Ad
Aware which I run frequently but due to start up problems decided to try
these programs too.
After my first run of Hijack this the problem of "My Documents" opening up
on start up was solved but now there is a new problem which is that I get a
box that pops up called "Windows Installer" and it wants to install MS Money
2002. Naturally, I clicked cancel, only the box came back about 6 times
before giving up. So I run Hijack again and let it fix more things and also
due to advice from a tech support friend of mine I change my Internet
Explorer settings under Scripting to prompt for Scripts rather than allow.
Now when I boot up, on start up I get the prompt to allow scripting. I click
"No" and it comes right back, about 6 times.
So, Obviously there is some kind of script set to run on start up and I
can't find it with the HiJack. Also noticed that when I run AdAware on
startup before opening any programs, it always finds things. Even if I run
it, shut down windows, run again immediately on startup.
Been trying to figure this out all day and completely stuck. I have run my
anti virus, a deep scan and nothing since the virus that I found yesterday
called Dropper.Swicer.A
I have a cable modem and windows XP firewall is turned on.
Anyone have any suggestions? I did get the report from HiJack that tells
what programs run on windows startup but nothing looks out of place although
I do admit that since I am not a professional there could be something there
I don't know about. Anyone willing to take a look at this report in a text
file and perhaps give me a clue?
TIA, chrissy
