I am new to all this so you will have to forgive me. I have an access
database with fields that I need to extract to a comma delimated text
file. How would I go about doing this? Thanks for your time.

Create a Query selecting which records and fields you want to export
(unless you want to export an entire Table).

Then select the Table or Query, use File... Export, select .txt from
the "Files Of Type" dropdown box, and follow the wizard instructions.
