Running two desktops with 98SE (A and B)and laptop (C) with XP Pro and Linksys
cable router.

The network, per se, has been running fine for months. My only complaint has
been that it seemed to be slow.

So I decided it was time to take a look at the guts of XP to see if I could
speed it up. And, of course, I made a couple changes (that I can't even
remember, or I'd go back and change them back).

Here's what the symptoms seem to be, so far: The laptop (C), with XP, seems to
be keeping the network from working any longer. When it's on, there isn't any
network. A can't access B, C can't access B. When C is off, A can access B.

I've not yet tried all the other combinations.

Any ideas?

TIA

Additional info: On C (XP machine) everything shows up in Network Neighborhood;
however, accessing has been intermittent. When I can't access, I get a message:

"Network Places

Computer is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network
resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have
access permissions."

Where/how do I give myself (administrator) access permission>

TIA

The network path was not found.
