screwed over by 6 TB drives

The WD He6 lacks 2 centre screw holes. The Seagate 6 TB is even worse -
all centre holes gone AWOL.
I have an old Antec case under the bed: the low-noise job with rubber slings
for the hard drives. Geez that was a dud idea. Maybe it's better just to
attach the drives with 2 screws.

I don't think anybody will be ready for this. I
guess it'll mean drilling holes in stuff :-) For
all those case components that aren't designed for it.

I couldn't find a doc for Seagate, but there is a picture here.

At least Western Digital explained why.

Thank you for the links, did you mean Seagate explained why?

From the Seagate link:

"Most notable from a design perspective is that to make room for the
sixth platter, Seagate had to move the center screw holes. They're gone
on the sides entirely, and the ones on the bottom have moved to the
back. There's a chance this could make the drives incompatible with
tool-less drive trays and older trays that have not accounted for the
move to a rear mounting point on the bottom of the drive."

My comment was, that Western Digital prepared a nice summary
of the situation on "holes". And it didn't take me too long to
find it.

Which reminds me that I should tag the 2579-771970.pdf doc,
so I can find it later.

Maybe the 8TB drive will come with Velcro straps.

I've drilled holes for disk mounting before, in some
removable cage in one of my computers. It helps if
you have a steel item with the holes on the right span,
to get reasonably close to the right position (to use
as a drill guide). Doesn't look like that will work
with the Antec trays though - no material in the
right location for that, so no chance to move the
grommets.
