are screensavers harmful to my computer, should they be used. and is safe or better to leave computer on all time or shut down at night. leave monitor on all time if not using screensaver or turn off
This is my first computer so any help would be greatly appricated
Well, I am assuming you are using Windows, as you are posting in a win
forum, so:
Screensavers are not in any way determental to the health of your
computer, but make sure you get them from a good source or your windows
disk, as, like any program, they may contain a virus or trojan that could
be determental to the health of your computer. Always have a virus scanner
on your computer, and make sure you run it at least once a week. A list of
free virus scanners can be found on
www.spiesonline.net in the virus tools
section.
As for leaving the computer on, this will both extend the life of your
computer and shorten it. It will extend the hours that each component is
active for, however, as each component is active more hours a day, it will
shorten the days that your computer will last for. To solve this, make
sure you set your hard drive, CD-rom, and processor to power down or, in
the case of the processor, go idle after 30min of inactivity. This will
prolong the life of each component. Also, it is a very good idea to avoid
cold boots, as they can damage the hard drive quite easily.
