I would like to remove the pre-installed display screensavers. I am running
XP Home SP2. I have searched Microsoft KBs, but found nothing. I have been
to all the good tips and tweaks sites that I know of, and still no mention
of how to do this. At one time, I seem to remember reading in this NG to
remove them through Add/Remove/Windows Components/highlight
Accessories&Utilities-click details/highlight Accessories-click
details/highlight Desktop Wallpaper-click details. At that point they said
to check the ones to delete and choose delete. Problem is that at Desktop
Wallpaper-details, the detail button is grayed out. Another solutions said
to remove them through C:Windows\system 32. But, they just reappear. Then
I read that you also have to delete them through
C:Windows\system32\cache.dll. I could not find that, however I did find
C:Windows\sysytem32\occache.dll. But, I don't think I'm suppose to touch
that!! Anyway, when opened, it was all computer gibberish and listed no
files. So, can anyone tell me how to do this? Sorry, this is so long, but I
wanted you to know what I've tried. I realize this is not a major problem to
solve, but I like to keep things neat and trim. Thanks for your time and
wisdom, past and present, and future. Belle
