Screensaver problems after updates

After downloading SP1a the screensaver / password that
had been functioning properly on my machine no longer do
so. Now what happens now is a) the screensaver starts as
it should when the machine isn't being used, but b) after
the 20 minutes required (in my case) before password
access is again required the password prompt appears,
with the screensaver vanishing, and remains on screen.
All advice / assistance welcomed.

Did someone bump into the table the computer is on or knock the mouse?
Either event or one similar would stop the screensaver and switch to the
logon screen.
