ScreenSaver Password

Could anyone tell me how to get my screen saver password setup? I've tried what the "help and support" section suggested on my computer but no luck. When I check the box to initiate the password and click apply or preview it does nothing. I don't know what to do to get it to work

does you login account have a password? that's the password it uses, if
you don't have on it wont work.
 
I have a welcome screen that i enter a password but not sure if it's what your talking about. The only time it prompts me for that password is when the computer goes into hybernation mode or shutdown. I'll uncheck the welcome screen box and restart, see what happens. What about "fast user switching".. does it have an impact on the screen save

In the "Screen Saver" area of "Display Properties" look for:-

On resume display welcome screen

If you tick this then the welcome screen is displayed when you reuse
the computer after screen saver has been active. Then just enter your
normal login password.
