Recently I have had a problem at boot up. The bout up proceeds OK to Log in
and after Login the screen appears with many different size vertcal stripes
of different colors and widths. I have never seen it on a computer before.
The screen is frozen, CTRL,ALT,DEL does nothing, I have to turn off
manually, boot up in safe mode, then restart and it will usually boot
normally.
Any ideas as to cause??

Sounds like driver corruption or the graphics adapter may have failed. Try
F8 at startup and "Enable VGA Mode"

Hello George
Are the vertical stripes a sort of morse code looking or solid stripes
Antioch

I see this a lot with ATI graphics cards.
It's an indicator that the graphics card is on the road to complete failure.

The stipes are solid and I think I do have an ATI graphis card in this
computer, I will check and see.
Now it is turning to stripes when I click on START, but if I click on an
icon in the tray, Outlook Express, Internet Explorer, it works OK.

I will check the ATI card.
Thanks
George
