Hi
Anyone know of a program which can record screen activity direct to an AVI
or MPG file? I'd like to prepare some demos of screen actions which may be
transferred as instructions to DVD to send to someone.

TIA
Don

Hi

RenderSoft CamStudio is a tool for recording screen activity into
standard AVI video files. If you move the cursor, launch a new
program, type some text, click a few buttons, or select some menus
anything that you see on your screen -- CamStudio will be able to
record all these and allow you to play them back later on.

 You can use CamStudio to
· demonstrate features of a new software
· create movies used in user trainings
· track the progress of a program that executes for a long time
· record the sequence of steps that cause the occurrence of bugs
in faulty software
· record a movie stream
· convert AVI files to Flash (SWF)  files.

CamStudio 2.0 can still be downloaded from this site:

Thanks, Conny - Looks exactly like what I'm looking for.

Downloaded Cam Studio and all seems to work well except that the cursor
can't be seen during recording - whether switched on or not. It is visible
on the AVI playback. Have you had this problem? (Using XP Home)

I found that direct screen captures always had to be cleaned-up since
I made mistakes or went too fast or too slow in certain places.

Now, I use Wink <http://www.debugmode.com/wink/>

It captures screen shots and mouse locations then creates a Flash. I
can add pop-up text boxes to explain what is going on and it has
work-flow, "too see more about filters, click here..." kind of stuff.
