I have Windows XP Home SP2 on my eMachine and a graphic display True Color
1024x768, 60Hz on my monitor. Recently, I noticed that the images on the
screen of my monitor shimmer, become "fluid". The wave runs from the top to
the bottom of the screen and then everything back to normal for a while.
What could cause this? How to correct it?
I appreciate any advice and help.

Approximately how often is this happening?
Is the frequency of occurrence increasing?

I think, for now, it happens every few minutes.

I think so. In the past, there was no problem. Then it happened
occasionally, now -quite often...

there should be buttons on your monitor with settings you can change. look
for one that says degauss and press it. the screen will 'jiggle' but it
should stop acting weird. you might want to do this every couple months or so.

OT, but Do you get a lot of headaches? Running 1024x768 True Color @ 60Hz
is bound to cause eye and headache issues. Try reducing to 800x600, or the
True Color to 16-bit Color or both and see if you can increase the refresh
rate to at least 75/85Hz or higher - the higher the setting, the less likely
your eyes, aka brain will see it to cause headaches.

Well, Kelly, I degaussed and it looks like it works for the last few
minutes... Thanks.

Running 1024x768 True Color @ 60Hz does not bother me, really. However, I
tried reducing to 800x600, but it didn't help.
Thanks for your suggestion.
