I'm having problems with a screen saver I downlodad from microsoft called 3D
american flag, It seem to come on when it is supposed too, but also goes away
a couple of minutes later, all on it's own, Then comes back on for a little
while, and so on. Any Ideas, ( low skill levels) Thanks for any help.

Hey Mark: I ran the direct x scan and no problems were found/ I'm currently
installing the file your link took me to. Directx runtime for november 07 is
asking where to place the extracted files in ?????

It's not particularly important where, %temp% should work fine. start.run,
type: %temp%

OK Mark I installed it, I guess I'll wait until the saver comes on, and see
what happens. Can I ask a new question or should I post it?

It's better for the newsgroup to have separate questions in separate
threads. The great Search engine available on the web interface handles that
better.

Mark I left the pc alone, the saver came on like it should,it ran for 1 1/2
min. and quit, any more ideas Larry

Something running in the background might steal focus approximately
every 1.5 minutes (plus the length of time you set before the screen
saver comes on). I think Mailwasher does this when it opens a CMD
window.. Of course, if this doesn't happen with other SS's, I don't see
why this program would be so sensitive. Here are a couple of things to try:

Hey Elmo Sorry for not getting back with you on my ss issue, I had more
bigger fish to fry. I done a clean install of xp pro over the weekend. for
some other issues. Solved them but not my ss problem or my file folder icons
missing problem. Still not working correctly. I tryed the two links you sent
me too, with no results. Sure would like to clear this up, any other ideas.

An optical mouse, or USB mouse can cause the screen saver to stop. Some
piece of hardware might be affecting it too. There are many discussions
on NICs and other network devices stopping screen savers.

Hi Elmo I done a video driver update this morning, seems to have helped. I
watched the screen for 15 min without any ill effectes. So maybe I got lucky.
again thanks for your help. Larry

Only the MS wireless/Optical mouse disables the ss. Logitech's products
work OK Have not tested any others.

Hi Rick I've read some other post about simalar problems, the wireless
mouse has been the fix. I don't have a wireless mouse or keyboard, and I
discovered last night that the problem is still there, except now it stays on
much longer. I don't think it hurts anything since it comes back on in four
min. That's what the timer is set to. Larry
