The screen saver has never worked on any build for me. The only time it works
is when I first boot up and don't log in. After logging in, it has never
worked. I don't have the problem in XP.

Does any one else have the same problem.

If you are referring to screensavers like Aurora, Ribbon and Energy, those
require that you have WDDM capable card that DX 9 compliant.

Isn't a Nvidia 6600Gt a WDDM capable card? and I am running the latest
version of DX9.

Yes, it can be a WDDM compliant card, but you need to have the WDDM drivers
installed. To find out if your card is WDDM enabled, click Start > Control
Panel > set to Classic View > open Device Manager (accept UAC permission) >
expand Display, make WDDM is beside the name of your video card.

Usually, if that is the problem, the screensaver will just be a screen
telling you that you need WDDM supported card. I don't have a screenshot but
it is pretty obvious when you see it. What about the screensaver isn't
working? Is it not running, or just giving you a black screen?

It is just not running at all. Nothing, noda. It doesn't matter what screen
saver I pick.

To Andre, To All:

That makes perfect sense--except that I have a non-WDDM hardware based
graphics driver (dumb, pre-knowledgable, decision) that runs Ribbon and
Aurora--but not Energy. Or at least not in full screen--the "monitor" on the
Screensaver menu will display Energy, but it won't display full screen; when
I try to run it, I get a "this screensaver can't run because it requires
functionality not available on your hardware-based graphics card." (Intel
910GML, Gateway M280e, 1.8GHz; Vista RC1; Build 5600).

As I mentioned, though, Ribbon and Aurora, work fine. Thoughts on the
discrepancy?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or pontifications. All the best.
