I have windows XP set such that the hard disks shutdown after 5 minutes of
inactivity.. The problem is that the screen reverts to the windows logon
state. I ahve to enter a password again. This is annoying. How does on hold
the desktop open yet power down disks.

Thanks in advance

Configure your computer to not prompt you to type a password when you resume from standby:
--
Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
Click the Screen Saver tab, click to clear the On Resume, display Welcome screen check box.

From Control Panel, then double-click Power Options.
On the Advanced tab, click to clear the Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby check box, and then click OK.
