I have a viewsonic 21" CRT which I use for gaming. I have ATI X800 256
graphics card and a gig of 3200, AMD 64 2.4 Ghz. I guess my question is for
this size monitor is there a general resolution setting as long as it fall
under the maximum the card and game support. IE for a 21 inch 1024 X 768 is
this the sweet spot. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

It's entirely down to opinion, personally I always run as high as I can go.
I do a lot of reading so the higher resolutions really make text a lot more
readable (as does enabling ClearType). If I had a 21 inch screen I'd be
looking at 1280x960 minimum, ideally 1600x1200. I run at 1920x1200 and it's
still not enough. 8-)

Performance wise with my X850 XT PE I can run most games at 1920x1200, so
I'd imagine you should be doing 1280x960 or 1600x1200 without much too much
trouble. Of course on a CRT it's a lot easier to run at lower resolutions
then usual, unlike TFTs which get blurry as they rescale, so you could
always go to say 1024x768 and just anti-aliasing just to tidy the jaggies up
a bit.

Thanks for your timely response Paul, I will give the new setting a go and
see which is most preferable. Thanks again, John Vancouver Canada.
