Yesterday after a presentation, someone just closed my
laptop without shutting it down. When I started it this
morning, everything - icons, fonts, you name it, was
really tiny. Screen resolution is 1280 x 1024. If I take
resolution down, then it's just a small window in the
center of the screen. How can I keep full display but
make everything larger (like it was yesterday)? Thanks!

Right click an empty area of the desktop. Choose Properties>Settings Tab.
Choose the resolution you want or that is specified for your laptop. LCD
displays need to run in a particular resolution to display properly. See
your system documentation for this information, it could be 800 x 600, or
the 1280 x 1024 you see now. Is the entire desktop reduced in size or just
a window when you open an application like Word or Power Point?

The entire desktop is small. For instance, when I use
Illustrator, even the tool bars are small. It makes it
super hard to read. I've tried setting it to 800 x 600.
When I do that, the window takes up about 1/3 of the
entire monitor. Is there a way to set it to 800x600, but
have it take up the whole screen (this is probably a
stupid question).

Set the resolution to 1024X768.
