Changing the CMOS battery on a motherboard has reset all
the screen setting on the computer back to the original
ones. This is OK as they can be changed back to the
setting I want. However, when I try to change the screen
resolution, the system crashes. Any ideas why?

I do not understand this! The screen resolution is not stored in the CMOS
but is only controlled by the XP video card driver.

I've tried re-installing the video drivers, but no joy!
This is now driving me nuts!
Please help!

Does it help if I say that the machine is runing Windows
98?

Yes, you need to ask on a W98 group?

My guess since I see no other info, you have a dead video
card, a bad cable, or a bad monitor.

If you use a news reader, set the server to
msnews.microsoft.com and search will find all the Windows
groups...
If you do a Google groups search for windows 98 you'll find
many...

| Do you have details of a W98 group?
