Screen Resolution - still a problem

The issue of screen resolution being distorted has still
not been resolved. Does anyone know what components Andy
from MS was referring too that effect DPI? This does
appear to be something wrong with the DPI of the monitor
screen, which becomes really serious at 640x48 to the
point where more than 25 percent of the image on the
right side of the screen does not show unless you "drag"
the image over with the mouse.

Perhaps someone else who has seen this problem can
suggest a solution? We have insured that proper chipset
drivers for VGA are installed, all fonts are there. If we
run the identical hardware configuration is run under XP
Pro, it works fine. The problem only shows up under XPE.

Thanks for any input.

Hi Irv

I'm not Sure what the your issues is or what or hardware is. I'm using a
Wafer 5285-300 board and I had a problem which sounds like yours.

My soultion was to dump the driver which came with the baord and I used the
following compotent that ships with XPe. I would have prefered to use more
upto date drivers but the board manufactory seems to have little care
updating drivers.

Super VGA 1024 x 768

Seems to work OK now, let me know if it helps.

Irv,

Andy was referring to these two components:
Fonts:DPI-120
Fonts:DPI-96

If you look in fbalog.txt (towards the end) do you have something like this:
22:01:29 - [FBAChangeDisplaySettings] Settings: [1024, 768, 16, 60]
22:01:29 - [FBAChangeDisplaySettings] Found settings!
22:01:29 - [FBAChangeDisplaySettings] Changing settings!
22:01:29 - [FBAChangeDisplaySettings] Success!
22:01:29 - [CallEntryPointThread] C:\WINDOWS\FBA\FBALIB.DLL,
FBAChangeDisplaySettings
Indicating that the Display settings have been set correctly?

The text in your FBA will be different cos you have different settings.

The reason I ask is because I just had an "odd" problem with the screen
settings not being set correctly which
was only fixed when I added "TCP/IP Networking with File Sharing and Client
for Microsoft Networks". This
component obviuosly pulled in something that the graphics driver needed.

Right, it brought in PnP(User mode) component. The question of "why did
tcpip fix my display resolution" is one i've heard before. <grin>

Here's a tip article on video resolution issues:

Allen,
I would like to talk on this that months before prev project when i
confronted with this same problem of the screen shifting itself ,i did
add all the components that was reffered to me from the newsgrpa s
well as the urls bt unfortunately couldnt get the resolution
rite.correct me if im wrong.however i had to install the ati radeon
7500 graphic driv with card put up to hav the prob resolved.im still
wondering why ?

Thanks for the information. Actually, I did get an error
in this set of entries indicating a failure to set the
display resolution, however, the default driver set the
screen to 640 x 480 anyway, and it is still too big for
the screen.

I have installed the Intel 865 graphics drivers onto the
system after FBA using the Intel .inf installation
routine. Display Manager indicates the system is using
the proper driver at that point. I set the display to 640
x480, but it still makes no difference. I can't
understand why it works in XP Pro but not in Embedded.

Thanks for the information. I added these two font
components, but they make no difference. I also checked
the FBALOG and it does in fact indicate an error in the
section where it is trying to reset the display
resolution. However, the screen defaults to 640x480,
which is where I need it to be, but the program display
screen is shown way too big. I manually install the Intel
865G graphics driver using the latest Intel .inf
installation routine. Display Manager then shows the
proper adapter and monitor being used. Setting that to
640x480 still does not work. Again, this all works on XP
Pro.
