Screen refreshing (updating) constantly in XP

Hal H.

How do I stop the screen from refreshing every 20 minutes or so. It is
driving me crazy and sometimes it even takes me out of the page completely?

I have IE6 and it just seems to occur with MSNBC.MSN.COM. It occurs on my
desktop with XP but not on my laptop with VISTA.

I don't see how it would make a difference, Hal, but it's worth a shot: If
you install IE7 (which you're running in Vista) on the WinXP machine, does
the behavior persist?

Required reading IMHO before installing IE7:

Sandi's Installation Tips <= FOLLOW THESE TIPS TO THE LETTER!

[And I strongly recommend using
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx as the
installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update. Make *certain* that you
check in at Windows Update immediately after installing IE7 and install any
critical updates offered. If Optional Updates category offers Root
Certificates update, I recommend installing it to take full advantage of
IE7's additional security.]

Just in case you want it:

Thanks for the info PA Bear but after reading all the recommended material on
IE7, I'm scared to death to make the move. Are there any other available
proposals? It seems the cure attempt would be worst than the pain I'm
experiencing with my current problem. Hal

<pft> I've had occasion to uninstall IE7 several times since the beta 1.
If you follow Sandi's instructions /to the letter/, you shouldn't have any
problems whatsoever.

Thanks again PA Bear. I'll have to sleep on your solution. I'm pretty much
of a novice on the computer and have some deep seated fear of entering into
an area of unknown consequences. Notwithstanding that last statement, you've
really been a good sourse of info and help. Hal
