Vista RTM.

After I have remote desktopped into my PC from my laptop and then
disconnected, when I return to the PC the screen is black, the panel's
LED is amber instead green, indicating no signal, and the panel won't
reactivate - I have to reboot. The PC is still running - disks doing
things, keyboard alive.

I suspect a bug where because the screen on my PC doesn't support the
laptop's resolution - the PC screen is 1680x1050, the laptop is
1400x1050 - it can't display.

Anyone have any suggestions how to avoid this problem?

I'd try RDP at a lower resolution to verify.

OK, I tried a few more things.

I now suspect it's related to Power Management.

I have Monitor Power Off set for 10 minutes on my desktop PC.
If I RD in before the monitor goes off, then there's no problem. If I
RD in after the monitor goes off, the minitor won't come back on.

My graphics card is an ATI Radeon X1600 with the 8.31.100 Vista 32bit
driver.

Not that this makes you feel any better, I have the same issue using an ATI
X800 card.

This seems to occur with both the ATI beta driver and the driver included
with Vista.

Very frustrating...

Out of curiousity, are you using dual displays on your Vista system? I am,
and am curious to know if is related.

I have the exact same issue with RTM and Beta drivers for a Radeon 9600. The
monitor will often not turn back on, usually after remote access. Cold reboot
is the only known solution for me at the moment.

Screen resolutions differ but it has also happened to me without any remote
access at all. I haven't pinpointed exactly what causes it but I'm rapidly
wearing out the reset button.
