My screen goes blank at infrequent intervals. I have had
my hardware checked and it seems to be ok. when the screen
goes blank I can still hear the fan running but I have to
turn off the computer electricity and reboot. It does not
seem to be associated with a particular program or being
online. I have turned off maintainance programs, screen
savers, hibernate, etc. But it still happens.

Are these the symptoms? . If so you might look at KB #314503. I'm about to
try it.

The screen is black from the beginning of booting up and remains black.
Other times it gets to loading WindowsXP then goes black. The Event Viewer
shows System Error 7000. Tried all the "Newbie" things, unplug all, check all
connections ETC. By chance or luck it came on normally, after several
attempts, about a week ago. I haven't shut it off since so I can use it to
look for an answer. Event Viewer shows no errors since the last successful
boot. KB Article # 314503 says I can use the WindowsXP CD-ROM to fix it. My
concern is turning off the computer and getting a black screen when I insert
the CD to start up.Unless someone has a suggestion without turning off the
computer, I'll take a deep breath and give it a try. This began three weeks
ago after 9 trouble free
months since upgrading to WindowsXP. Having a black screen while the
computer is running is a helpless feeling.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
